Marigold or mogra? Choosing flowers that last the whole week
A florist-style guide to seasonal blooms, scent and what survives a five-function wedding.
Marigold is the workhorse of Indian wedding décor: bright, sturdy, symbolic and affordable. Mogra, tuberose and roses add scent and luxury but wilt faster in the heat. The best arrangements use each where it shines.
Use marigold for entrances, haldi backdrops and long garlands, where it needs to stay vivid for hours. Add mogra and tuberose near seating and the mandap where scent is noticed, and plan late refreshes.
Ask your decorator for a seasonal bloom calendar. Winter weddings can carry roses and orchids; summer ones lean on marigold, jasmine and foliage. Always plan a refresh crew for the second day.
